Surfers Take a Break During Lay Days

Lay days occur when surfing conditions are not ideal, leading to a temporary halt in competition. These days are perfect for running errands, like grocery shopping and laundry. Surfers at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 experienced lay days after excellent conditions on Monday, July 29.

Anticipation for the Next Round

After two lay days, the competition is expected to resume on August 1, starting with women's round three, followed by men's and women's quarter-finals. The break allowed everyone to reflect on a historic Monday that featured incredible barrel riding, a viral photo, and challenging Teahupo’o waves during the men's round three.

Keeping Busy During the Lay Days

With free time on their hands, many surfers returned to the water, eager to catch any surfable waves. The hot spot for the past two days has been the river mouth at the End of the Road. This landmark is known for its proximity to Teahupo’o, about an hour’s drive from Papeete. Upon arrival, surfers either hit the waves or head back to their accommodations.

Top Surfers Enjoying the Waves

Olympic champion Carissa Moore, world champion Caroline Marks, and fellow American Caity Simmers have all been seen enjoying the river mouth action. Australian surfers Molly Picklum and Ethan Ewing were also in the water on Tuesday. Wherever there’s a rideable wave, surfers will find it.

Conclusion

As surfers eagerly await the resumption of competition at Paris 2024, they continue to make the most of their lay days, staying active and prepared for the next thrilling rounds.
